Mark B. Weipers - Managing Director
-
Born in Dunedin in 1959, attended Otago University gaining Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) and Master of Commerce (Marketing) degrees.
-
Left University in 1982 to pursue an entrepreneurial, rather than corporate career, moving to Auckland to partner a mentor in the start up of a new commercial real estate brokerage firm, Realty Brokers Ltd MREINZ. This business grew to the extent that it housed 60 commission only agents together with a consultancy division, with Mark proving an excellent salesman.
-
By 1986, Mark was the joint MD of the business but then chose to move into the International marketing of New Zealand properties necessitated by the 1987 share market crash. This focus took him to Japan, Singapore and Taiwan regularly over a 5 year period, selling approx. $200m of NZ based commercial investment product to a growing Asian clientele.
-
In 1992, Mark decided to move from a "middleman" in the real estate industry to a "principal" position, accepting a partnership role with Roy Richardson, the founder of Location Group, an established residential property developer. Due to Mark's experience in the Commercial marketplace, his task was to expand Location's activity and image in this market segment.
-
Starting from relatively small beginnings (with limited capital), this fledgling Commercial division of the Group has grown into its principal income earner, with residential activity being confined to a number of mixed use development concepts, either recently completed or in the planning phase.
-
Mark was appointed the MD of the Group in 2005 and now oversees the strategic planning for the Group, including financial structuring, whilst still being involved in conceptualising and delivering new projects.
-
Mark has been married to Pene for 21 years, and enjoys the outdoors, together with being a sporting 'nut'.

Born in Wellington, and now aged 61 years, Roy is the Founder of the Location Group.
-
Following minimal education at Wellington's Rongotai College, Roy left school at age 15 to take up a career in the Motor Industry. Huge enthusiasm was rewarded with acceptance into the Motorspecs (now Repco) executive cadet scheme at Head Office in Auckland.
-
Sales proved to by Roy's real forte throughout the cadetship resulting in an early move to the sales division. Driven by the challenge of targets, and the opportunity to earn unlimited income through commission, Roy made a career change into Residential Real Estate, at the age of 22 years.
-
Following a short career in a Real Estate Agency, sufficient capital was generated for a move into Residential Property Development.
-
Despite many challenges facing an under-capitalised venture and with limited business skills, Roy's reputation grew as a decisive and fearless trader.
-
38 years on, the Location Group has completed numerous real estate transactions in most segments of the industry.
-
A career highlight in 2003 was to be recognised by the Bank of New Zealand in an historical documentary, compiled for Head Office archives, recording Location's relationship over 30 years with the Bank.
